FilzFelt was founded in 2008 by two felt-loving designers, Kelly Smith and Traci Roloff. FilzFelt is a combination of the German word for felt (filz) and the English (felt). Since we’re Americans importing German felt, it seemed like the right fit!

Born and raised in Northern Virginia and trained in architecture, Kelly now calls Boston home. For several years, she worked with German wool felt in a line of goods for her company etcetera media. Kelly also enjoys managing (and playing with) a local women's soccer team and planning monthly events with like-minded designers in the Boston Design Salon.

Traci grew up in Wisconsin and worked in corporate interior design and historic preservation before realizing there’s a whole big world outside of architecture. Now a Boston resident, she started and contributed to the design blog, the girl in the green dress, until ending it earlier this year and is partial to old bicycles and Finnish printed textiles.

And although they love all the felt colors in the line (and based their logo on color 308 Petrol!), Kelly's favorite felt color is 300 Anthrazit and Traci's favorite is 173 Mango.

Callar and Junior belong to Kelly and her husband and are the resident studio dogs at FilzFelt. They sneak their way into much of the product photography but unfortunately are not for sale. Can’t get enough? These vizlas have their own website.
