Textile Arts Center

Textural wall covering in a community textile studio

The Textile Arts Center is a resource facility whose mission is to promote engagement with textiles and fiber techniques through classes and artist-in-residency. The Brooklyn studio, at 3,200 square foot fully-equipped workspace, is designed by Milev Architecture for the serious textile enthusiast. The space includes state-of-the-art equipment, a resource library, and office space.

Since the space is open, allowing flexibility of use, a need for separation of the office area is met through the use of a serpentine felt-covered wall. The wall cuts through the space separating the offices from the large work area and, in addition to featuring an all-natural textile, adds some texture and is punctuated with vertical slots trimmed in steel.

Felt wall covering is an easy way to add softness and texture to a feature wall, while also offering acoustic absorption.
