Beaver Country Day School

Mathematically-Derived Patterning in Informal Study Areas

Beaver Country Day School is a private, coeducational school founded in the suburbs of Boston in 1920. The school of 450 students in grades 6-12, prides itself on applying state of the art technology to education and have formed partnerships with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and IDEO, the award-winning human-centric design firm, to bring creative thinking and innovation to the classroom.

Kennedy & Violich Architecture integrated CNC cut Wool Design Felt panels in color 200 Natur into the Science & Research Wing in the central circulation spine. This space provides for multiple functions, including a major circulation stair, a gallery for exhibited projects and collaborative seating areas for informal study. The felt panels are suspended from a cable system and help to satisfy the diverse acoustic needs of the space. The computer-generated patterning (this IS the science wing, after all) is rendered in 5mm Wool Design Felt panels and provided with pre-cut holes for easy installation.
