Building on a strategic plan to provide comprehensive care in their new oncology center, Flad Architects assisted Sarasota Memorial Hospital in creating a space that provides a holistic approach to care and focuses on comfort to help patients through treatment. The team worked with hospital user groups to design the center based on patient flows and create an efficient and low-stress experience for patients going through treatment.

Throughout the space, Flad establishes a strong connection to natural light as an overarching design goal. The lobby’s two-story atrium features a clerestory above a graphic wall featuring Index Wide. The team selected shades of calming greys and blues that mirror the sky just beyond the windows above. The same motif is carried throughout meeting rooms and patient recovery areas to create a calm, cohesive connection and ease of patient flow. Building materials such as warm wood and pure wool felt contribute to the calming environment.
