Quiet But Colorful by Perkins + Will
The Max Robinson Center, a healthcare and research facility by Whitman Walker Health, draws inspiration from its 50-year legacy of advancing health equity for the LGBTQ+ and minority communities in Washington, D.C. Tasked with creating flexible spaces that provide ease, security, and dignity for staff and patients, Perkins + Will playfully balances the need for quiet and relaxing rooms while celebrating the “soul, grit, and promise of Southeast Washington, D.C” through the design.
In both a communal dining area and a shared kitchen, Akustika 25 Baffles, in a rainbow of vibrant colors, bring an exciting energy to the spaces while helping to lower the volume in areas where staff and patients gather for coffee and snacks. The saturated colors enhance the bold graphic design throughout the building, reinforcing the identity of the community it serves.
